'Game of Thrones' Season 7 Plot Details, News: Jim Broadbent Set to Play as Maester
HBO's popular-fantasy series "Game of Thrones" may have gotten a later premiere date, but more details are coming out to hype up the season.
One of the new pieces of information concerns the role of British actor Jim Broadbent ("Harry Potter"), who is confirmed to play as sort of an "old professor".
Broadbent confirmed that he will appear in over five episodes out of the seven total episodes set for the season. He will also frequently appear alongside the character Sam Tarly (played by John Bradley), who as fans of the show would remember was sent to the Citadel to start his training on becoming a Maester.
"I'm a maester, an archmaester," Broadbent revealed during an interview with ScreenCrush. His character is presumed to be sort of a mentor for Sam Tarley.
A new teaser poster has also been revealed for "Game of Thrones" season 7. The poster, which did not really show anything aside from an icy-fiery background, was unveiled to promote the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.
The teaser, however, signifies the upcoming battle that is led by Daenaerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke), who is coming to Westeros along with her dragons (fire), which may face the army of walkers beyond the Wall (ice).
In line with the SXSW Festival, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will be holding a Game of Thrones panel at the event on Sunday, March 12, alongside Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams - who plays Sansa and Arya Stark, respectively.
In breaking news, HBO has just announced that season 7 will premiere on July 16. A new teaser was also released along with announcement.
HBO's "Game of Thrones" is based on George R.R. Martin's popular history-based fantasy novel series, "A Song of Ice and Fire," which details the family and political drama of five different powerful houses in the world of Westeros.
