'Game of Thrones' Season 8 News: 'Into the Badlands' Actor Joins Cast as Golden Company Leader

"Game of Thrones" has reportedly added a new cast member for its anticipated eighth season.

According to TVLine, eagle-eyed fans at Watchers on the Wall recently noticed a theatrical agency's announcement saying that Marc Rissmann has landed a role as Harry Strickland in the HBO fantasy drama's final installment. The listing has since been removed and HBO declined to comment on the matter.

Based on George R. R. Martin's bestselling novels, Harry is the leader of the Golden Company mercenary group. Further details about his character, along with other information about the season 8 storyline, are still being kept under wraps.

Rissmann recently appeared on the second season of AMC's "Into the Badlands" as Nos. He was also a cast member in the 2017 BBC America series "The Last Kingdom."

Rissmann's rumored casting debunks the long-standing theory that the Golden Company leader will be Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) former love interest Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman). The idea was that Daario will pledge loyalty to Cersei (Lena Headey) and secretly work to help Daenerys take down the Lannisters. However, some fans believe the theory did not make sense because even though Daario also belonged to a mercenary group, it was not the Golden Company.

Meanwhile, Kit Harington spoke with Digital Spy earlier this week and he shared his thoughts about the show's upcoming season 8. The actor revealed his excitement at the idea of having a free schedule as the series approaches its end.

"Thrones is coming to the end at the right time for me, and everyone involved in it," he said. "... I'm looking forward to finishing, and eight years is the right amount of time. I wouldn't want it to go on any longer than it has. I have other ideas I'd like to look at producing."

Although HBO has yet to announce an official premiere date for the final season of "Game of Thrones," there is mounting evidence that the series may be pushed back to 2019.
