'Game of Thrones' IMAX Season 4 Release Coming: First TV Series Shown in IMAX
"Game of Thrones" is about to hit the big screen.
The final two episodes of the show's fourth season will screen on IMAX screens beginning Jan. 23 and will be followed by a season five teaser. This will be the first time that a television show will screen in the IMAX format.
The episodes will be digitally remastered into the IMAX format, and will be available for viewing for one week in 150 theaters in the U.S. until Jan. 29.

The two episodes to be screened are "The Watchers in the Wall," whose battle sequences saw it compared to "The Lord of the Rings" films. In a previous interview with Hollywood Reporter, Neil Marshall, the director of the episode, told the website that he shot the episode as he would a film.
"I directed it to be very cinematic. I wanted it to be epic and to shoot to that scope,"
The other episode to be screened in IMAX is the season four finale titled "The Children."
In a statement, IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond said, "IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience, and today's partnership with HBO and Game of Thrones achieves just that. This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way. As part of our broader strategy, we will continue to look for one-of-a-kind ways to provide consumers with special IMAX experiences."
Meanwhile, with the events that took place in season four of the show, fans are worried that "Game of Thrones" may have peaked. Kit Harington, who plays Jon Snow in the series, is confident that the fifth season will match up.
"The thing I noticed this year is that they threw so much money at it," said Harington in an interview with The Telegraph. "I think it's going to be a pretty special season."
No premiere date has been announced for "Game of Thrones" season 5 as of the moment.
