God's Warning Against False Teachers
Christians believe that the Bible contains all the answers about the faith. For topics not mentioned specifically, pastors refer to verses that explain the moral explanation behind the subject. But there are topics that are not only mentioned, they are discussed numerous times as well as if to stress their importance.
One of them is the warning against false teachers as discussed by Christ Himself. In Matthew 24:4–5, He said: "For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." There is one cult in Southeast Asia with international membership and whose founder claims to be the appointed Son of God.
Jesus' message about false teachers is constantly delivered with a warning, just like He said in Matthew 7:15: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves." This could only indicate that many will be misled by those false teachers.
Indeed, many cults have emerged that lured unsuspecting victims into giving their life savings and possessions only to function as servants in their church. Some of their women are even molested along with their daughters, totally destroying their lives. Jesus gave the apt description of ravenous wolves in sheep's clothing.
How can false teachers be identified? Jesus said they will be known by their fruits (Matthew 7:16). The problem with this instruction is that most people are not familiar with the God's Word and as such, are unable to distinguish the good fruit from the bad. Those who are not rooted in the Word are the most likely to fall into the trap.
But make no mistake — even Christians can fall for the deception of false teachers who present themselves as the real deal. They can prophesy, cast out demons and do many wonders all in God's name (Matthew 7:22). The tragic part is that those who were deceived actually think they are treading the right path. But God will tell them in the end: "I never knew you; depart from Me, you evildoers!" (Matthew 7:23).
