'Gotham' season 2 news, cast, spoilers: Monsters are coming, Barbara and the Joker cross paths

"Gotham" is on a roll as it continuously releases promotional materials one after the other. Although fans of the show are already quite aware of what will be happening this season, which would be the rise of the villains, the recent teasers also express how this occurrence will more likely affect the people of Gotham.

Last season, order was somehow still in effect as organized crime involving Gotham's elite made it possible as they benefit much from that order. However, the villains, except from Tabitha and Theo Galavan, would more likely come from all sorts of background, with the only chaos in their minds. According to Screenrant, the latest teaser implies that change "is in the air" and this goes for the citizens of Gotham. Many of these changes will be brought upon by the struggle of those who uphold the law like Jim Gordon and those whose goal is to disrupt the order.

In the season trailer, Theo Galavan is heard saying, "Monsters are coming to cleanse this city in blood and fire." With this, it can already be assumed that a battle is brewing as the villains plan to "cure" the city of its "corruption" disease by destroying it and probably building from the ground up. Bringing evil alongside the Galavan siblings would be the Mad Hatter, Clayface, Firefly, and the origins of the iconic villain Joker.

Speaking of the Joker, another character that will have a run-in with him is Barbara. Barbara's unstable mental health has her getting checked into Arkham where she would be surrounded by crazy and dangerous inmates, Joker being one of them. Barbara won't probably be immune to The Joker's persuasive ways and this could only spell trouble as she is in a vulnerable position coming into the second season.

Season 2 of Gotham will premiere on Sept. 21 on Fox.
