'Gotham' Season 4 Spoilers: Jerome Valeska Is Not The Joker, Will Form an Alliance With The Penguin

While it was initially thought that Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska character would become "Gotham's" version of Joker, it has been revealed that the character will not transition to Batman's most iconic nemesis.

In an interview, "Gotham" executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt crushed the hopes of the fans that Jerome Valeska will become the series' Joker as he revealed that the character is not actually destined to become the villain fans thought he would be. Nonetheless, the character will continue to evolve as a villain.

"He's obviously not the Joker himself, although (he) clearly seems to be the impetus that eventually creates the Joker. The more that we see him, the more he carves out his own path I'd say. I wouldn't say he becomes more the Joker, but the Jerome character continues to evolve," Wynbrandt said.

While it is already confirmed that Jerome Valeska will not transition to Joker, "Gotham" co-executive producer John Stephens has assured that fans will see more of the character this year. According to Stephens, Jerome Valeska will be in a different position this year as he will form an alliance with Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), who is otherwise known as The Penguin.

Some opine that, while "Gotham" has the liberty to alter the origin stories of its characters, it remains unclear how it would do when it comes to the so-called Clown Prince of Crime as, to begin with, he has no origin story. In fact, in the "Batman: The Killing Joke" comic book, Joker even said that he remembers his past in multiple ways.

"Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another... if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice! HA HA HA," he said.

With the confirmation that Jerome Valeska is not the Joker, fans can only wonder how Batman's most famous villain will be woven into "Gotham's" story.

"Gotham" season 4 airs on FOX on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. ET.
