'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers: Return of Meredith's First Patient; Maggie-Andrew Relationship Teased
Dr. Meredith Grey's (Ellen Pompeo) first surgical patient on ABC's long-running medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy" will be returning to Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital in an upcoming season 12 episode. Katie Bryce, the then-15 year-old patient Meredith treated in the show's pilot episode, way back when she was an intern, will once again be treated for a similar health issue, Just Jared has learned.
According to the website, actress Skyler Shaye, who played Bryce, will reprise her role in an episode that will air on March 3. In season 1 episode 1, the actress portrayed Katie, a rather petulant rhythmic gymnast who was admitted to the hospital (then known as Seattle Grace) after having several unexplained grand mal seizures. Meredith figured out that the teenager had had an aneurysm, which led Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) to allow her to scrub in with him for the surgery. This occurred back when Shepherd, as well as Christina (Sandra Oh), Dr. Burke (Isaiah Washington), George (T.R. Knight), and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) still roamed the halls.
When Katie returns to be treated for another aneurysm, she will be seen by Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone). The return of Meredith's first patient is expected to bring up some strong pent-up emotions, as well as memories of her deceased husband Derek and best friend Christina.
Meanwhile, fans of the budding romance between Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) and Dr. Andrew Deluca (Giacomo Gianniotti), have surmised that the two seem to be the show's new Meredith and Derek, and Gianniotti agrees. In an interview with E! News, the actor said, "I mean, certainly there's an element of the attendant sleeping with the intern, but I mean, Andrew's younger than her. But yes, certainly, there's certain parallels, of course."
"I think certainly Andrew has very strong feelings for Maggie and I think she has strong feelings for him as well," he explained.
However, the actor also said, "I think they might be on different pages in terms of how a relationship at work is supposed to operate."
"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
