'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 spoilers, news, cast: Sexy, romantic, and Tequila-filled scenes are coming

The return of "Grey's Anatomy" for season 12 will definitely have a big burden to carry when it comes back, especially with the shocking death of Derek Shepherd, fans will more likely expect more from the show. However, the show is ready to take on the challenge of life after Derek.

According to Variety, this season will have a much lighter tone. Despite the rocky relationship of April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams), there will be more love and dating going around, involving Jackson's mother, Dr. Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen). Her new married life with Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) will be hot and heavy.

Aside from them, the show will try to pull inspiration from the time when a lot of the doctors had started to date each other and had secret meet-ups in the on-call room. Other couples featured would be Alex (Justin Chambers) and Jo (Camilla Luddington) who are living together in a new place. Rhimes previously mentioned that the show will explore more of who Jo really is. There is also Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) who would seemingly try to establish the kind of relationship they have. Lastly would be Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) who will be diving into the dating scene after they have called it quits.

People reports Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren, shared that this season "has that lightness and sense of humor that people fell in love with in the first place. There are a lot of people who are not couples now and are falling into bed. Everyone's getting a little bit of loving."

As for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), it's reported that she will be living with her two sisters in their mother's home, which already has a huge impact on the tone of the show. She won't be focusing at all on love, and instead will spend many nights with her sisters, which many think should have been Christina (Sandra Oh) if she hadn't left.

There would also be many bar scenes in which the cast would just be shown having a good time, so a lot of lighthearted scenes will be coming to viewers. The show has done a lot to reinvent itself in the past seasons and it certainly proves to be keeping up with the times.

Season 12 of Grey's Anatomy will premiere on Sept. 24 on ABC.
