Following the events of Season 4, Nick starts Season 5 with seething anger and a hunger for revenge, after the deaths of his mother and his girlfriend, Juliette. According to a report in Movie Pilot, vengeance is definitely Nick's top of mind, which will make this season a little bit darker than the previous season.
The show's first trailer has been released, revealing a few tidbits about Nick's state at the start of the season. In his quest for vengeance, he may end up alienating what is left of his friends as he plans to act without their help. As for his job as a cop, that may be in danger too – in the trailer, his boss hinted that he needed to take a break from work. During the season, he is eventually suspended because of his actions, according to the report.
His saving grace this season may have to do with the fact that Nick has become a father to a child he had with a former adversary and ex-Hexenbiest, Adalind. According to the report, the child will temper Nick as he goes on his quest for vengeance. After all, he needs to figure out how to raise the child with Adalind. The child after all is the only thing left for both of them, so they will find a way to work this out despite their differences.

This season will also bring to light what the Seven Keys are. According to the report, the Seven Keys are owned by seven knights, who are known to be the ancestors of the modern-day Grimms. These knights used to work for the Seven Families during the 12th century. When the keys are put together, they supposedly show a treasure map. This treasure was brought back by the knights after the Fourth Crusade. The treasure itself is not known, but it is supposed to be a very powerful artifact that will allow those who have it to rule the world.
