'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2' News: Gunn Reveals Primary Cast and Calls on Women to Join the Movie

As fans probably already know, "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" has officially started production in Atlanta, and along with the official confirmation of shooting day one, James Gunn has also revealed who will be part of the primary cast.

The famous director took to Facebook last week and confirmed that Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Batista, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Glenn Close will all be back for the sequel. He also confirmed the initial rumors about Kurt Russell joining the cast, as well as Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris Sullivan.

For those unaware of Russell's involvement with the hit movie, the "Silkwood" actor has been rumored to play the role of Star-Lord's father, a mystery character that the world has yet to see. There has been no confirmation, but fans are eager to know if Russell will indeed play the role.

Gunn said Russell is more awesome than people know he is, adding that he is glad to have the actor on board one of the most-anticipated movies for 2017.

Along with the cast's revelation, Gunn also shared a new photo for fans to chew on until additional details about production are revealed in the months to come. The photo shows shadows of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and finally, baby Groot. Diesel's Groot is one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe, and though he was destroyed in the first film, it was hinted that a baby Groot will step to the plate and replace the fallen Guardian.

Meanwhile, Backstage revealed that Marvel Studios is currently searching for "fierce" women who would like to be part of the cast. The company is in need of background actors who will shoot alongside the sequel's stars. According to the outlet, Marvel is specifically in want of women who are "fighter types, bikers, or gang types." Shooting for the said roles will take place on March 4 and 7 in Atlanta, Georgia so fans can take out their smartphones and hope to get a few snaps of the lead characters.

"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" will hit the big screens on April 25, 2017.
