'Half-Life 3' News: Valve Bringing Out Fan-Made 'Half-Life 3' Game On Feb. 11

"Half-Life 3" is arguably one of the most highly-anticipated shooter games in the gaming industry. More than nine years since its original release date was scrapped, fans of the Valve-developed game are still waiting for news on if and/or when the third installment to the "Half-Life" first-person shooter game series will ever make its way into their hands.

Now, almost 12 years since "Half-Life 2" was made available, rumors are again swirling about a possible "Half-Life 3" release. But, this time, the news may actually hold water. According to a report from KPop Starz, Valve Corporation may be developing a next-level "Half-Life" experience for fans of the game and that the developer may even come out with a Virtual Reality-supported "Half-Life 3."

In the meantime, Valve has approved the launch of a fan-made game inspired by "Half-Life 3." The game, titled "Prospekt," will go live on Steam on Feb. 11. The stand-alone game is said to feature 13 levels. It uses the graphics and assets from "Half-Life 2" and is about as long.

The game's developer, Richard Seabrook, said that he developed "Prospekt" because, like other "Half-Life" diehards, he had been waiting a long time for "Half-Life 3" to come out (its original release date was Christmas 2007) and because he hopes to someday work for Valve and thought that "Prospekt" may pave the way to that dream.

According to VG 24/7, Seabrook spent 2,500 hours over the course of two years on "Prospekt" and had to quit his job to do so.

While "Prospekt" won't be an official sequel to "Half-Life 2," Valve did grant Seabrook the rights to use aspects of "Half-Life 2" to develop his game. The company has also given "Prospekt" the go-ahead for a worldwide release.

While "Prospekt" isn't "Half-Life," fans of the latter can find out just how close Seabrook came to mimicking the original when "Prospekt" becomes available next week on Steam.
