'Hannibal' season 3: Episode 12 is a perfect prequel to a gripping finale
Viewers of "Hannibal" season 3 will all agree that episode 12 may be the greatest episode in the show's history. All actors gave a stellar performance and the heart-stopping dialogues created a tension strong enough to come across TV.
As fans remember, the previous episode was all about trying to set up a trap for Francis Dolarhyde. Will Graham agreed to team up with Jack Crawford to catch Dolarhyde after the attempt on his family in the previous episodes. Flickering Myth reports a detailed recap of the latest episode titled "The Number of the Beast is 666," leading to the chilling death of Frederick Chilton.
During the episode, Graham and Crawford try to lure Dolarhyde from hiding by publishing an interview in Tattle Crime that described the Tooth Fairy, Dolarhyde's murderous nickname, as a self-hating pervert. The original outcome expected from this was a confrontation between Graham and Dolarhyde, which would be a setup, as SWAT members surround them, ready to capture or shoot Dlolaryhde, if needed. However, things will not go the way as planned as Dolarhyde takes on a different direction and goes after Frederick Chilton.

Most of the episode would have Chilton glued to a wheelchair. The two characters' dialogues are an exchange of implied personification among the characters surrounding them, such as Jack being compared to God for his moral high horse, and of course, Hannibal Lecter is certainly covered, as well. After Dolaryhde gives Chilton a speech about trying to make him understand his transformation to The Great Red Dragon, he then proceeds to biting of Chilton's lips and tearing if from his face. The gruesome clip is only a prequel of Chilton's ultimate fate of being burned alive.
The death of Frederick Chilton is actually a deviation from the original Freddy who was supposedly killed in the book. Originally, it was supposed to be Freddy Lounds (made into a female version in the series as the tabloid reporter Freddie Lounds) who would be suffering that fate. However, despite this major change, many still feel that the episode perfectly built up the story for the ultimate finale next week. Although the show is already canceled, viewers hope that there will be a chance for it to be picked up by another network.
According to IB Times, despite this sad news, showrunner Bryan Fuller made sure the quality of the show remains and promises to give fans what they're hoping for. He is quoted saying, "There will be a huge move for the show and it will be as satisfying as ending as it would have been in the first two seasons. So, if we had ended with Will taking the fall for Hannibal's crimes that would be a satisfying ending. Or if Hannibal is actually laying all of his friends to waste and walking out in the rain, that would be a satisfying ending. And this ending for season 3 would be as satisfying."
