'Haven' season 6 news, cast, spoilers: Canceled, but end promises to be 'satisfying'
After putting fans on hold about the fate of "Haven," Syfy recently made an official announcement that it will no longer renew the show for another season.
The announcement followed after the second part of the fifth season wrapped up filming. According to When Will, the decision was made because of the low ratings of the latest season. Starting off the season with only around 1.04 million viewers, it continued declining to just an average of 700-800 thousand viewers per episode. Although the show does hope, in some way, to be picked up by another network, it doesn't seem likely so.
However, for fans of the series, showrunner Gabrille Stanton assured that the end of the season would be enough to conclude the series. Although the show's fate was initially unsure, she shares that they prepared to end the season in a way presuming the series was also ending. She goes on to say, "We had an idea that it might be [the final season]. I'm sure as a fellow TV fan, there's nothing more annoying than when a show kind of feels like it might be wrapping up, but they just don't address it, they don't come to any kind of satisfying conclusion. I always think that's cheating the audience a little bit, of a nice satisfying ending. So we really looked at these 13 episodes as if… If we were indeed going to end, what would be the best ending we could possibly do for Haven?"
Stanton continues to add that they refused to end the season with a cliff-hanger, as they put themselves in the position of the viewers. This helped them come up with an idea of making the finale "most satisfying" for the followers. Furthermore, even though the series also wrapped up story-wise, if in case it does get picked up, then it would be no problem to move on with another plot as the series does have many possibilities it can explore.
The second part of Haven season 5 premieres on Oct. 8, 10 p.m. ET on Syfy.
