'Hawken' Latest News: Developers to Shut Down Game Operations for PC via Steam
Fans of the free-to-play mech shooter game "Hawken" may soon have to part ways with their favorite game, for PC users at least.
Reloaded Games has officially announced that they would be closing down "Hawken" PC servers and will no longer be available for purchase starting January of next year. The announcement was made via Facebook, on the official page of "Hawken."
"It's been an incredible journey since the introduction of Hawken on Steam, back in 2014...After 3 great years, we are shutting down the PC Steam servers to refocus our development efforts. The PC game will officially be removed on January 2, 2018, and all DLC and purchasable content will also be unavailable starting today," the developers announced.
The game first began with an open beta back in 2012, and two years after, the game finally made a big leap towards the PC via Steam and was even able to support the Oculus VR (virtual reality) headset. In 2016, "Hawken" was finally released on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
Following this announcement, the developers made it clear that they would now be giving much of their attention and focus on the console format of the game. What's worse for those who have gotten deeply involved in the Steam versions of "Hawken," all the DLCs have been unavailable since last Oct. 2.
However, the developers didn't forget to thank all the fans for their continuous support throughout the years promising to come back and develop new games in the future.
This decision may have possibly been influenced by the declining number of Steam players. Back in 2015, the game had an average of 500 players but in the past month alone, the number of players was down to 85. The console versions had experienced more success which is why they will go on for a few more years, hopefully. As for PC users, it may be as well time to part ways with "Hawken."
