Heaven and Hope

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
- Romans 5:5

After our son Christopher went to be with the Lord, I found myself having a greater interest in two topics. The first is the topic of heaven. I have always been interested in heaven, of course. I have preached on it a lot. But I have never studied heaven like I do now. I want to know everything I can about it.

The other subject I have spent a lot of time studying is hope, and how we can have hope in the midst of crisis.

You could say that I am a student of heaven and of hope. I wouldn't say that I am an expert on these subjects, but I think I know more about them than I knew before. And I still think I have a lot to learn.

I am not the only one fascinated with the subject of the afterlife, however. A lot of books have been written on the subject. In fact, if you were to go to Amazon's website and type in the word "heaven," you would find more than 200,000 results for things you can purchase related to the subject of heaven or with the word "heaven" in the title.

In time, I believe we all will become more interested in the topics of heaven and hope, because as we get older, more people that we know will die. It is a depressing thought, but it is true. Life is hard. But although life is hard, it is also true that God is good.

The Bible tells us, "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us" (Romans 5:5).

God will give us the strength and the hope that we need in life.
