Heidi Montag on Plastic Surgery, Breast Reduction: I Needed 'Therapy' for Insecurity (PHOTOS)

I Got Huge Implants Because 'I Was Really Insecure,' Says 'Hills' Star

Heidi Montag had breast augmentation in 2010 to get large F-cups, but last month, "The Hills" star downsized to a C-cup. Montag said her initial surgery was because of her misplaced values, and admitted that she could have benefitted more from therapy than going under the knife.

"I was really insecure at the time and put my value into breast size. I should have gone to a therapist! And I couldn't conceptualize the weight of them in my body; they felt like bowling balls on my chest," Montag said of the three-pound implants.

Heidi Montag revealed her latest plastic surgery to Us Weekly, saying her first too-large breast augmentation resulted in health issues that were causing her pain and anxiety. A doctor convinced her to undergo the six-hour procedure to correct it, and the surgery took place Oct. 4.

"[Reconstructive specialist Jay Orringer] told me they were falling through the bottom, and I got scared. It's super dangerous. They can fall through to your belly button!" she said in the interview.

The problems made her consider dialing back her implants to a much more modest size— a C-cup, which she first had surgery to get in 2007.

"Now my spine doesn't hurt and my neck feels better. It's like I can breathe for the first time in years. I am just more comfortable in my skin," she admitted. Montag, 27, said she wanted the surgery to result in something closer to her natural size pre-surgeries, but decided against it because extra stitches would have been required.

Montag has also undergone a chin reduction, a brow lift, having her ears pinned back and liposuction. Now that the risks associated with plastic surgery are more apparent to her— in 2010 doctors called Montag's husband, Spencer Pratt, and told him her "heart stopped"— she's realized that she had issues with materialism and her self-image.

"Since ['The Hills'], all I've done is refine who I am without the Hollywood life," the Colorado native told Us Weekly. Being surrounding by other, richer young women like Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth made her "possessed by [her] possessions" and a 2007 Playboy photo shoot affected the way she saw her body.

Scaling back from the Hollywood lifestyle and returning to a easier-to-manage size has made Montag and her husband happy.

"When the health risks kicked in, it wasn't a choice," she said. "Starting over has been hard, but it's made me and Spencer … the best we've ever been."
