Holly Holm News: 'The Preacher's Daughter' Gets One More Fight Before Rousey Rematch

UFC bantamweight queen Holly Holm will be fighting one more fight before facing former champion Ronda Rousey in a rematch.

In a report by Hunter A. Homistek for MMA Fighting, UFC president Dana White confirmed the news through FOX Sports' UFC Tonight.

"Holly Holm will fight before she fights Ronda," White said, according to the report.

This recent development goes against White's own declaration after UFC 193, where he stated that Rousey would be getting an immediate rematch against Holm. "The Preacher's Daughter" knocked out Rousey in the second round during the main event of the said card, which was held on November 15, in front of a record-breaking crowd of more than 56,000 at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

"Rowdy," who ate a left kick to the jaw, has been deemed medically suspended for a period of six months, making her ineligible from any kind of contact during the said time. It perfectly went with her own declaration before facing Holm that she wanted to "disappear" after the fight and come back at UFC 200, which will take place in July.

White did promise mixed martial arts fans that UFC 193 would not be Rousey's last fight.

"Ronda has dedicated the last three-plus years to working hard here," White said, according to Fox Sports. "Not just fighting, but promoting and taking the sport and the UFC to a whole other level. Ronda has some well-deserved time off but she will fight this year."

The report adds that Holm will likely be facing former bantamweight title challenger Miesha Tate. "Cupcake" was also promised a title shot by White after her victory over Jessica Eye in July of the past year, but was instead given to Holm.

Tate, (17-5, with nine victories by stoppage), is currently on a four-fight winning streak.

In another report by Mookie Alexander for Bloody Elbow, the Holm vs. Tate fight is purportedly scheduled for UFC 197 on March 5th in Las Vegas, as the co-headliner for the lightweight title fight between Rafael dos Anjos and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
