'Homefront: Revolution' Release Date Leaked By Target?

The sequel to the 2011 first-person shooter video game "Homefront" has been in development since the year when the first game in the series was released. Called "Homefront: Revolution," the game's delay in development is due to financial problems that plagued its previous developers, so much so that ownership of the game changed hands thrice. Now that it is with publisher Deep Silver, which is owned by Koch Media, it seems that its development has finally progressed.

According to a report in Tech Times, after not hearing any news about the game, U.S. retailer Target may have inadvertently revealed when the game is finally dropping. The report cited a pre-order card made for the retailer which indicated that "Homefront: The Revolution" will be available starting May 17, 2016. A photo of the card showed the card price at $1 and what looked like an official image from the game.

According to the report, publisher Deep Silver has not made any comment about the leak. The report speculated that the pre-order card looked legitimate so there may be some truth behind it.

The last time the public heard some news about the game was at Gamescom in August 2015. Koch Media official re-launched its promotional campaign for the game with a teaser trailer. From the developer's end, a writer at Dambuster Studios also said "the studio is making its own unique mark on the name of Homefront," according to another report in Gamespot.

When the game changed hands from THQ to Crytek in 2013, Crytek decided to change the game from being a linear shooter to one that is more open-world. Set four years after the events in the first game, the game is set in Philadelphia after a Korean invasion of the United States. The main protagonist of the game is Ethan Brady, who must lead a resistance movement against an invading Korean army.

"Homefront: The Revolution" is in development for current generation consoles, the PS4 and the Xbox One, for PC, Linux and Mac.
