'Homeland' Season 6 Spoilers, Plot News: New Season Will Be Shot In New York; Quinn 'Severely Damaged,' Showtime Bosses Reveal

Huge "Homeland" Season 6 updates ahead. First, David Nevins and Gary Levine of Showtime have just revealed that the new season of the network's top-rated political thriller will be set in New York City.

"'Homeland' will be shot in and around New York," Nevins, the president and CEO of Showtime Networks, said at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Tuesday. Previous seasons of "Homeland" have been set in international locales such as South Africa, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Season 5, which was set in Berlin, was the first American TV series to shoot an entire season in that city.

After featuring so many foreign cities on the show, according to an Entertainment Weekly report, the network wanted to "do another America story," Nevins said. "It will be set domestically," he added, explaining that New York will be the primary setting for the season, but that some scenes will be set and shot in other places.

"I don't think it's necessarily going to stay there forever, but there was a strong interest in doing a domestic story from the creative team," the Showtime boss revealed. Though he couldn't comment on other details of the upcoming season apart from its setting, Nevins also went on to praise "Homeland" showrunner Alex Gansa's work on the series, saying that the network is "in awe" of how Gansa and his team are able to reinvent the series every year.

As for the fate of Quinn (Rupert Friend), who may or may not have died in the Season 5 finale, Showtime programming president Gary Levine dropped what may or may not be a major plot spoiler. "Quinn is severely damaged," Levine said.

"There is no question about it," he stated, adding: "The life-or-death question remains. But if he should live, it will not be in any way, shape or form the way he has lived to date."

Levine's comment makes it sound like Quinn will still be in Season 6, though it also sounds as though it may take him a long time to recover. But does the Showtime executive's comment on Quinn being damaged mean that he will be physically changed? Or will he be mentally or emotionally... different?

Find out when the sixth season of "Homeland" airs in the fall.
