Honest Man Finds $40,000 in a Parking Lot, Returns It to Panicking 71-Year-Old Owner (VIDEO)
Brian DiCarlo was just picking up dessert at a Safeway in Clackamas, Ore. when he picked up an envelope he spotted in the parking lot. To his surprise, it contained $2,000 in cash and a cashier's check for $38,000.
"First thing I'm thinking is this person is a wreck," DiCarlo told WCSH. "They've lost whatever this is for, so they're losing their mind."
He was right. Elsewhere in the parking lot, a 71-year-old woman was in a panic looking for the envelope, which was to be the down payment on a house.
Instead of exulting over his jackpot find, DiCarlo called the sheriff's office, who tracked down the rightful owner. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, called DiCarlo "an amazing man," and plans to send him a thank you gift.
About his motivation, DiCarlo didn't return the money for the attention.
"I do it because that's the first thing that came to mind," he said. "I would just hope that someone would do it for me."
