How Can I Support My Pastor?

Our pastors are important in our spiritual lives. God has given them the responsibility of a shepherd who tends to his flock. Looking after each member's spiritual needs is not easy and sometimes thankless. It's more difficult for those who lead small churches that receive little to no financial support from the denomination.

It is up to us members to be sensitive to the needs of our pastors. Don't ignore it if your conviction is to your pastor and his family. Let yourself be used for this purpose and take honor from it. Helping the pastor unload some of his personal burdens will allow him to focus more on church affairs. So in a way, you are helping the ministry.

Helping our pastors might entail giving financial support which is a strain for most of us. What some Christians do is allocate a portion of their tithes to the pastor. This can be a form of gas money or allowance for the kids. It will reduce the amount meant for the church but it helps the ministry either way.

Taking care of the pastor doesn't entail financial support all the time. You can make his job easier by volunteering your services. You can also give him moral support by being a friend. Remember, spiritual leaders are also human who need encouragement whenever they feel down.

Show loyalty by reporting to him potential conflicts in the church. Tell him about the problems of members that he needs to know. Provide him feedback on his sermons. In other words, make him a part of your family by being available as much as you can.

If you're a woman, you can also channel your moral support to his spouse. Being a pastor's wife is very important but could be lonely at times. Most of them had to give up their careers in order to go full time in the ministry. Try to lead a support group of women in your church for the pastor's wife.
