HTC One M9 And HTC One A9 To Get Android Marshmallow Treats This Holiday

Owners of unlocked HTC One M9 and HTC One A9 smartphones are getting an extra special Christmas gift this holiday season. According to a report in Tech Times, HTC has confirmed that these two devices will be receiving Android Marshmallow updates soon.

The HTC One M9 is the company's latest flagship and, according to the announcement, it will be receiving an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon. Owners of this device have been expecting this update especially after HTC started rolling out the Marshmallow update to its predecessor, the HTC One M8.

The HTC One A9 was released earlier than the M9, but already came pre-installed with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It will be receiving an update to the latest OS build, which is the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

This announcement was made December 23 via Twitter by Mo Versi, VP of product management at HTC. In his tweet, he said, "Updates to the Unlocked A9 6.0.1 and Unlocked M9 6.0 will be able to be downloaded within next 24 hours!"

According to the report, the update will be initially available in the U.S. There is no word yet from HTC when the updates will be coming to non-U.S. users.

The One M9 update will be bringing new features to the device, such as the "Doze" mode which is said to prevent battery drain during a standby period. It is also said to bring increased storage via a microSD card.

Owners of the One A9 handset who will be getting the Android 6.0.1 update can expect over 200 new emojis with the update. Bug fixes are also expected. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is considered to be a minor update to the OS, according to recent reports.

For HTC One M9 variants that are linked with mobile carriers, the report said that the latest Android build will be rolled out by early 2016.
