HTC One M9 Mini Rumors, Specs: 'Miniature' Flagship Not Coming, Says Company Exec
For the past two years, HTC has been releasing a "mini" smartphone to partner with its flagship for that particular year.
Unfortunately, it seems the Taiwanese manufacturer has decided to stop the trend this year.
According to a report by GSM Arena, Jack Tong, HTC president in North Asia has confirmed that there are no plans for a One M9 mini's this year.
"Overall the industry is moving towards new phones over 5 inches in size and our product roadmap is close to that of the industry," said Tong in a statement.
During the last two years, the One minis have been in the sub 5-inch category, and having an HD (1280 x 720) resolution.
While there is definitely nothing wrong with this size, it may not be that popular in Asia where other phone makers such as Samsung and LG have already saturated the market with phones that have 5-inch or higher display.
Take for example Apple, who still performs well in spite having a current model that only has 4.7-inch of screen real estate.
The HTC One M9 mini could be the last thing on HTC's mind in its strategy for the Asian market, but that may not be the case for other countries.
So while there is reason to believe that the Taiwanese phone maker won't make the mini in Asia, it may still release a similar-spec'd device in other countries.
