Huawei Mate 8 – Phablet With High-End Specs May Be Released Soon
After Huawei's success in manufacturing one of the two Nexus phones for Google this year, the Chinese company is now gearing up to release another entry into the phablet market. According to a Tech Times report, new leaks about an upcoming device called the Huawei Mate 8 have been circulating. The reports say that the new device is a smartphone that packs high-end specifications and is poised to arrive before the end of the year.
According to the report, another leak coming from China recently claimed that the device is already being mass produced and is set to be released in the market by late November or early December, in time for the holiday shopping season.
Rumors have it that the device will pack high-end specifications which include an aluminum unibody, which makes it look sleek, as well as a huge 6-inch display with a resolution of 1,440. Its display is slightly larger than that of the Nexus 6P.
Under the hood, it is rumored to sport Huawei's own Kirin 950 chipset, which consists of four Cortex-A72 cores running at 2.4 GHz, and an extra four Cortex-A53 running at 2.0 GHz. According to GSM Arena, these processor specs are comparable in performance to Samsung's Exynos 7420 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810. The processor is paired off with either 3 GB of RAM or 4 GB of RAM. In terms of internal storage, the device will reportedly have a 32 GB and a 64 GB variant.
The Tech Times report claims that the Mate 8 will have a 21 megapixel rear-facing camera and an 8 megapixel selfie camera. In terms of software, the device will run on Huawei's own version of the Android Lollipop OS, called Emotion UI.
It is also rumored to be equipped with the revolutionary Force Touch Technology, which is similar to that on the new iPhones and the Apple Watch. This will not be the only Huawei phone with this technology as the upcoming Mate S is also said to come with this.
The 3 GB RAM model will be selling for 3,299 Yuan or about $519, while the 4 GB RAM model will be priced at 3,899 Yuan or about $613. Huawei has yet to announce whether this device will be available in the U.S.
