iPhone 5e Rumors: iPhone 6c May Be Called iPhone 5e Instead
When Apple released its latest iPhones, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, its sales during the opening weekend broke even the previous iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales, according to a report in Tech Times. While consumers are eagerly waiting for Apple's next flagship iPhones, the iPhone 7 and 7s, the company is reportedly working on a budget iPhone.
Earlier reports point to a four-inch iPhone which was initially dubbed iPhone 6c, the successor of the iPhone 5c. The Tech Times report however point to sources that claim that the budget iPhone may actually come by another name, the iPhone 5e.
According to the report, the "e" is supposed to stand for "enhanced" and technically, the new phone's specs will qualify it as a replacement of the iPhone 5s. The device has a four-inch screen and has specs which make it an entry-level iPhone. Earlier spec rumors say that the upcoming device will also have a similar design as the iPhone 6s and will have a faster A9 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. These are the same specs as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.
The main difference between the rumored device and the 6s series is its screen size. According to a recent report from China, the device is rumored to have a four-inch Retina display, an A8 processor and not an A9 processor, and only 1 GB of RAM.
Another rumor cited in the report comes from Mac Otakra, which calls the device as the iPhone 5s second generation. It provides the dimensions of the device, which is 122.90 mm by 57.63 mm. The rumor also said that the device will be equipped with Touch ID for Apple Pay and NFC. Color variants of the device will be the same as the iPhone 6s series.
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch the device, whatever it will be called, at a special press event in March, where it will be revealed together with the Apple Watch 2.
