iPhone 7 Specs, Features Rumors: Will The iPhone 7 Sport A New Headphone Jack, Touch ID And Be Waterproof?

Soon after the unveiling of the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, rumors about the next iPhone started making the rounds. With many rumors and reports, a round-up of what has been predicted about the next generation iPhone may be in order. According to one such roundup by TechAdvisor UK, among the new features that a new iPhone might sport is a new headphone jack, Touch ID and waterproofing.

In terms of the device's release date, Apple has always been predictable with its release dates, so the report predicts that the new device will likely be unveiled at a special event sometime in September 2016. In terms of price, Apple is likewise known for sticking with the current pricing so it may do the same for the iPhone 7.

The phone's specifications may have a few improvements as the report predicts that it will retain specs such as the 12-megapixel iSight camera and the screen sizes, which is now at 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. It speculated, however, that because other smartphone brands are offering phones with bigger screen sizes, Apple may be tempted to rethink theirs. Given 2016 is a new year, an A10 processor and an M10 motion co-processor may already be available for the iPhone 7. 2 GB of RAM will remain to be the standard for the new device. It will also likely come pre-installed with iOS 10, which is slated to come out by June 2016.

One of the rumored new features of the iPhone 7 is a new headphone jack called D Jack, which will be slimmer with a diameter of only 2 mm. According to the report, this rumor is based on a new patent Apple has acquired for such a jack.

Another rumor that started with another Apple patent has to do with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which is already available on current generation iPhones. In the case of the iPhone 7, it is said that the Touch ID capability will extend to the whole screen and not just near the Home button. This could mean being able get rid of the Home button and giving the phone a larger usable display.

Waterproof protection is another rumor, which is based on what Apple has been trying to do - make its devices waterproof. According to the report, there is a new patent that makes use of a special waterproof coating for electronic components which can be used on the iPhone's different components.
