Is a New 'Halloweentown' Film in the Works?
After over a decade of dormancy, is Disney finally working on a new "Halloweentown" film?
It's the Halloween season once again and during this period, Disney fans are often reminded about one of the network's best television films — the "Halloweentown" film series. With Disney announcing that they are planning to remake the iconic "Hocus Pocus" film, fans of "Halloweentown" are wondering if the same thing can be said about their favorite movie. Sadly, the answer to that question is negative.
As of yet, no plans have been announced for a new "Halloweentown" film, but fans shouldn't let go of hope just yet. This is because the film's executive producers, Sheri Singer, has revealed that she would like to do a fifth "Halloweentown" film.
"I'd have to get Disney Channel to get on-board, but I would like to," Singer says. "I have ideas of how I would do it. There was some talk about a year and a half ago but then it didn't happen," she added.
If the woman behind the film wants to add another installment to the franchise, then all that is needed is Disney's participation. Furthermore, Singer says she has a few ideas on how a new film would come about.
"I think it could be done as a musical," she told E! News. "There's also ways to do a prequel. It's not something I haven't brought up before," Singer went on to say.
Unfortunately for the film's fans, Debbie Reynolds, who played the Cromwell matriarch Aggie, had passed away in December last year a day after her daughter, Carrie Fisher's death. But if a prequel would ever be in the works, perhaps Reynold's granddaughter Billie Lourd could portray a young Aggie.
If a fifth installment is to be made, it looks like a few roles would need to be recast according to Singer since not all of the actors involved in the franchise are still acting. Kimberly J. Brown, who starred in the first three films as Marnie Piper, can possibly return as her character but may take on a maternal role.
