Is a 'Young Sheldon' and 'Big Bang Theory' Crossover Possible?

"Young Sheldon" may be a prequel to CBS' hit comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" but according to the flagship's long-time executive producer Steven Molaro, a crossover is possible.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Molaro weighed in on the possibility of a crossover.

"It's something that we've talked about," the "Young Sheldon" co-creator admitted. According to Molaro, Sheldon's past may be able to introduce new characters to the main series. Both timelines could even feature the same new character simultaneously.

Given that "Young Sheldon" and "The Big Bang Theory" are set in two completely different timelines, could a crossover episode be possible?

"I don't know that we would do a flashback crossover episode," Steve Holland, the flagship's new showrunner, said.

He continued, "It certainly seems like there's fun opportunities down the line for us to make nods to one another, at least. Even if you just see something from Sheldon's childhood that then Adult Sheldon makes a reference to, it's nice to tie those two worlds together a bit."

"The Big Bang Theory" opened its 11th season on Monday, giving excited fans the highly-anticipated answer to Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) proposal. Through the past ten seasons of the show, fans have seen the eccentric physicist grow as a person and although building social ties might have seemed impossible for him at first, let alone a relationship, he is now happily engaged to long-time girlfriend Amy (Mayim Bialik).

As for the gang's already married couple Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Howard (Simon Helberg), they are expecting their second child together. Rauch is pregnant in real life so instead of hiding her pregnancy the team thought it would be really interesting to throw this surprise at the couple.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 11 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
