Is Xiaomi Launching Its First Smartwatch on November 24?

Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi has marked November 24 for a special event. If reports are true, the company may be unveiling its first smartwatch as well. According to a report in Tech Times, the smartwatch may make its appearance along with the official announcements for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Pro and the Mi Pad 2, which were revealed earlier through teasers.

According to the report, the rumor that a smartwatch is among those to be unveiled started when a noted tipster Leaksfly shared on Chinese site Weibo that Xiaomi is showcasing a Xiaomi smartwatch at the event.

The smartwatch, if reports turn out to be true, will the first one for the Chinese company. In terms of wearable technology, however, the company has already made waves with its Mi Bands, which has two versions already. According to the report, venturing into the smartwatch market is a logical step for the company. If there is indeed a Xiaomi smartwatch coming, it will likely follow the affordable price points that the company's devices are known for, while offering competitive specs.

The report speculates that the watch may be called the Mi Watch, following the company's branding pattern and may come pre-installed with Android Wear or better yet, Xiaomi's own MIUI. The leak however did not provide any other details about the rumored smartwatch, including its specs.

Xiaomi's first venture into the wearable market started with the Xiaomi Mi Band that was released in July 2014, and a newer version in June 2015. Reviews of the fitness band were positive, with most reviews praising its simple and straightforward fitness tracking functions for a very affordable price. According to TechnoBuffalo, the second-generation Mi Band device only costs $15 and features a heart rate monitor with a water-resistant design. It can also be paired with either iOS devices or Android devices.

Xiaomi's November 24 event, according to official event teasers, will be the venue for unveiling the anticipated Redmi Note 2 Pro and the Mi Pad 2.
