'It' Sequel Finally Gets a Release Date

The sequel to the hit Stephen King film "It" finally has a release date.

It wasn't a question whether "It" would get a sequel or not. The question, however, is when the sequel will be released and now Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have finally decided on the best time to release "It 2." Pennywise the Dancing Clown is set to return to cinemas on Sept. 6, 2019 — the same timeframe the first film aired earlier this month.

Details about the sequel are still minimal apart from what fans already know. "It 2" will take place 27 years after the conclusion of the first film and will feature the Losers Club as adults. With this being said, fans of the show already have a few stars in mind to portray the Losers Club.

Jessica Chastain looks like the fan favorite to portray Bev, and Chris Pratt is the fan favorite to play Ben.

Featuring the Losers Club as adults doesn't mean that the favorite kids who portrayed the much-adored characters in the first film will not have a place in the first film. In fact, director Andy Muschietti, who is already set to direct the sequel, says there is a special place for the younger version of the Losers Club in the film as they are set to appear in flashbacks.

Set 27 years after the first film, the now-adult Losers Club had left the town of Derry, but with the return of the evil entity that is "It," each of them must return to their roots and defeat the alien once and for all. Gary Dauberman is set to return as a screenwriter for the sequel, and Bill Skarsgard will make a comeback as the insidious Pennywise.

Upon the release of "It," the film immediately became a box office success, becoming the largest opening for a horror film in the US at $123 million. It also has the record for the largest opening for an R-rated film, apart from being the highest-grossing horror film of all time domestically without adjusting for inflation. Already, "It" is nearing the half a billion mark with $480 million.
