iTunes 4K HDR Movies Launched for the Price of HD-Quality Content
Apple started releasing 4K HDR content on iTunes ahead of the launching of the new Apple TV 4K with HDR support.
As of now, Apple junkies will only be able to find a limited number of 4K movies in the system. Reports say the Cupertino-based company is rolling out titles by region, and they have started with the US.
The content is yet to be available on all devices, but it is expected to appear on all platforms soon.
Patrons should be able to find the new 4K and Dolby Vision tags on the iTunes Store, Apple TV as well as on iOS and Mac devices, to include 4K flicks. However, not all content that will come with 4K HDR support will have the special tags.
It seems like the company has more to do since the notification support is reportedly not system wide. For instance, the aforementioned labels would show up on iOS but not on macOS-running devices.
The 4K movies come with the same price as HD titles. More importantly, for iTunes consumers who have previously bought HD quality content, Apple will be upgrading them to 4K with no additional charges. The process is automatic and users will not have to do anything else if they want to stream their purchased titles with the highest resolution possible.
The next generation Apple TV is powered by the A10X Fusion system-on-chip. The device is able to produce an output resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels. It also comes with support for numerous HDR standards.
Apple TV 4K comes in two configurations, the 32 GB model which costs $179 and the 64 GB unit which is priced at $199.
Apple TV 4K is currently available for pre-orders. The units will be shipped on Sept. 22 when the device is slated to hit the shelves.
