Jacksonville Jaguars NFL 2014 News, Rumors: Set to Make Big Splash on the Free Agent Market
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a quarterback in place that the believe in. Blake Bortles had a pretty good rookie year, and now team owner Shadid Khan wants his team to have "better results on game day." With a potential franchise QB on the roster, Khan is prepared to spend some money on the free agent market to make that happen.
The trend in the NFL lately is to find a good young QB and then surround him with as much talent as the front office can find. The Jaguars have 62 million dollars of cap space to spend this off season. They hope that that will be a big enough selling point to attract new talent to the team to help improve those game day results.
Two big things working against the Jags is their home city not exactly being a free agent destination and that fact that they will play one of their home game in London, England for the foreseeable future.
Khan has faced some criticism for selling off one of his home games to London to help increase revenues but if he is willing to invest in the talent on the roster it becomes very hard to find fault him maximizing profits. The argument can be made that selling off one home game year is better for Jaguars fans than say the team relocating to Los Angeles or some other NFL market.
Jaguars fans could be nervous as Khan was once was a bidder for the St. Louis Rams. If Stan Kroenke moves that team to LA, Khan may choose to move the Jaguars to the larger market of St. Louis.
"We want to get the better players. We've got a great facility here, great town here, great coaching staff that we have enhanced," Khan told Pro Football Talk.
