Jeff Garlin Charges Mediated: 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Star Gets Office Date Instead
"Curb Your Enthusiasm" actor Jeff Garlin has been allowed an opportunity to escape vandalism charges after smashing in a car window following a parking space dispute.
Garlin was arrested in Studio City on Saturday after allegedly smashing in the window on a woman's Mercedes following a dispute over a parking space. Prosecutors decided on Monday night that charges for vandalism would not be filed. The actor will instead report to the Los Angeles city attorney's office.
"We examined the facts and determined an office hearing is most appropriate in this circumstance," Frank Mateljan, spokesman for the city attorney, said to the Associated Press, noting that Garlin's actions did not appear to reach a "criminal" level.

Garland was held on a $20,000 bail Saturday following his arrest. The dispute between Garland and the female driver took place in a CVS parking lot after both disagreed over a parking space. Garland was accused of smashing the woman's driver side window with his bare hands. Mateljan noted that the woman involved in the incident would have the option of pressing charges against Garland in a civil court.
Garlin is a regular on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and frequent guest star on "Arrested Development." Holding office hearings in place of a court filing for less criminal offenses is not an uncommon solution, according to AP.
The actor, now 51, began his career as a standup comedian after dropping out of film school at the University of Miami. One of his first film appearances was a cameo role in "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" in 1999. He has also made appearances on "The Daily Show," "Entourage," "Everybody Loves Raymond," and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," with whom he was once roommates.
In 2010 Garlin released the book, "My Footprint: Carrying the Weight of the World."
