'Jessica Jones' Season 2 Release Date Depends on 'The Defenders' and 3 Other Marvel Shows
Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil will be combined for the mega series "The Defenders".
"Jessica Jones" Season 1 was a success, which is to be expected in everything that is included in the impressive library of Marvel's live-action drama. A large part of its success can be credited to the well-crafted relationship between Jessica Jones and her nemesis Kilgrave. Meanwhile, the premiere date of the second season of Jessica Jones may be delayed because of its connection to "The Defenders".
Jessica Jones versus multiple villains
Now that the superhero series is moving on to its second season, it is unclear yet who will be the threat to the titular badass.
Executive Producer Melissa Rosenberg says, however, that they are not even going to try and redo David Tennant's Kilgrave. She added that the character has become one of the greatest iconic characters superbly played by an extremely talented actor. Rosenberg further said that the biggest mistake the show can make is to attempt to duplicate Kilgrave.
She teased that the upcoming season will have more than one villain who will go up against Jessica. That got fans into thinking who these villains could be.
Poring through the Marvel comics version of "Jessica Jones" seems the most logical step in finding out who these villains will most likely be. There are three that easily stood out—Ruby Thursday, Jigsaw, and Nuke. However, the comic book version only but confirmed that Kilgrave is indeed Jessica's main and worthiest adversary.
"The Defenders" connection
Rosenberg also explained how the creative teams of the three other Marvel shows are handling things leading to "The Defenders" mega event. Once Season 1 of both "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist" wrap up, Marvel and Netflix's plan of combining all four of their shows into "The Defenders" will be fulfilled.
The new season of "Daredevil" will follow the mega series and then "Jessica Jones" Season 2 will premiere next. Rosenberg explained that "The Defenders" will launch the "Jessica Jones" series into its second season. She revealed that when things were just shaping up on what they wanted to do in the coming season, they always talked to the producers of "The Defenders" to set the events in their series. They just take it from there on "Jessica Jones".
Season 2 focus
Rosenberg gave another teaser by saying that "Jessica Jones" Season 2 will focus on the supporting cast around Jessica, specifically on her relationship with Trish Walker. She said that their friendship and sisterhood are the core of the show. Will next season be when fans get to finally see Trish become Hellcat?
Krysten Ritter plays the title role in Jessica Jones. In Season 1, she was joined by Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Rachael Taylor (Trish Walker). Other stars include Carrie-Anne Moss, Erin Moriarty, Eka Darcille, and Wil Traval.
