John Cena New Role as Heel in Movie Could Carry Over to WWE
John Cena is turning heel for a new role in the upcoming comedy starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, but could it lead to a new role for the WWE Superstar inside the ring as well? Cena will star in "The Nest," a new comedy written by "Saturday Night Live" writer Paula Pell and featuring James Brolin, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph and John Leguizamo.
Cena, both a loved and hated character in the WWE, has always played the part of the hero outside the WWE ring. He's starred in "The Marine," "12 Rounds," and "Legendary" and currently working on a film by Judd Apatow, "Trainwreck," which also stars Daniel Radcliffe and Tilda Swinton. Cena is known for his good-guy personality and dedication to getting the job done when necessary.
He recently won the WWE Championship for an astonishing 15th time, putting him in second place for as many wins behind Ric Flair, who has held the title 16 times. It's rumored that he will face Brock Lesnar at the next pay-per-view event, where he will have to defend the title. Fans were stunned that Cena pulled off the win after defeating numerous opponents inside the ring and finally climbing the ladder to take the titles. Many were hoping that Roman Reigns would take the title, given his recent climb in popularity.
However, according to Forbes, Cena's win greatly helped the WWE brand and owner Vince McMahon recover from a $750 million loss. Younger fans love Cena, who takes time out to focus on building his fan base; older fans respect his personality and dedication to his fans. Cena currently holds a record for fulfilling the most wishes of the Make-A-Wish program, which grants one big event or experience to children with serious diseases. The WWE Superstar is one of the most popular requests, and he never fails to fulfill his commitments or make his special fans feel like they too are champions.
