Joseph Kahn Defends Taylor Swift from Accusations Of Being 'Manipulative'
Joseph Kahn, director of Taylor Swift's new music video "Look What You Made Me Do," once again came to the pop singer's defense.
On Saturday, at the Variety Studio presented by AT&T, Kahn shared what it is like working with Taylor Swift. He addressed people's fantasies with "celebrity warfare."
"The biggest insult anyone throws at her is that she's manipulative," he said about Swift. "What does that mean? As an artist, because you know what clothes you want to wear, you know what edits you want to make, you know what the set-ups are, you know what the theme of every idea is, you know what your lyrics are. Is that manipulative or is that just being smart?"
In the same interview, Kahn spoke out about the recent issue with the Beyhive, Beyonce's fanbase, who have claimed that Swift's latest music video is quite similar to the "Lemonade" singer's works.
The director added fuel to the fire when he dropped a joke about Beyonce stealing one of her looks in "Lemonade" from Swift. It was made in jest. He implied that it was not really about crop tops but about the idea that people are obsessed with "celebrity warfare."
In the interview with Variety, he emphasized that amidst the time of hurricanes, and possible nuclear warfare, the joke appears to be a more talked about issue in the media. He called it insane.
Kahn eventually sent out a Tweet saying that he has worked with Beyonce before and that "Look What You Made Me Do" is not really in her "art space."
Despite Kahn's attempt to lay the issue to rest, Beyhive and Swifties are still at each other's throats. The fan bases are still on about which artist has hit more records, won more Grammies, and sold more albums.
