Justin Theroux's Garbage Pick Days Taught Him 'A Lot About Society,' Actor Says
Justin Theroux recently revealed that he used to garbage-pick while he was a struggling actor in New York in the 1990s.
The Hollywood actor and screenwriter, 42, admittedly use to dig through trash cans for food while trying to make it as an actor in the Big Apple. While the "The Leftovers" star is now said to be worth millions of dollars, he recently admitted that he was once broke and did not always live a life of luxury.
"I used to garbage-pick. It sounds much more disgusting than it is," Theroux told Details magazine. "You learn a lot about society by seeing what's thrown away. During the period I was doing that, a lot of great stuff was being tossed."
Theroux is currently engaged to former "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston, 45, and he acknowledged that his fame status has changed since he got involved with her. The couple was first introduced back in 2007 through mutual friends.
"It doesn't feel like a hardship, it doesn't feel difficult. It can be an annoyance, but it's not the end of the world," he said of his stardom.
"You have to center on what its core thing is, which is that you met someone you fell in love with. It's hard to explain. I just find myself wondering, 'What's the big f------ deal?"' he went on.
Actor Robert Downey Jr. is believed to have helped connect the couple and he recently revealed that "[Justin] and Jen fell in a real, legit fashion and he was willing from the jump to make sacrifices."
Aniston began dating her "Wanderlust" co-star in 2011 and one year later, he proposed. The pair has no immediate plans to walk down the aisle.
One report claims Aniston's close friends, which include Courteney Cox and Chelsea Handler, may be the reason that the couple has not been able to push forward with wedding plans.
"They think Justin is the coldest man Jen's ever dated. When he's been around Courteney, Chelsea and the others, they say he goes out of his way to make them feel like outsiders," a source told OK! Magazine.
"His world is the only one he cares about— he's never really embraced Jen's world, and it's caused a huge strain on her friendships," the insider added.
