Katy Perry Says Taylor Swift Is a 'Sweetheart' But Kanye West Is a 'Villain' In Eyes of Media
Days after Katy Perry's epic Super Bowl halftime show, people are still talking about her performance, the massive golden robot lion she rode in, Missy Elliot, and Perry's dancers in the shark costumes -- particularly the Left Shark.
Before the Super Bowl, the "Teenage Dream" singer spoke to Elle for their March 2015 issue and talked about her contemporaries, preparing for the halftime show and how people perceive certain celebrities.
About the halftime show, Perry said, "In my show, I am boss daddy. I am boss mommy. They call me Boss. Everything goes through my eyes, I call the shots, 100 percent of it. With the NFL, I have to be accountable to several levels of red tape."
The singer says that the Super Bowl is "the biggest thing" and even had the numeral XLIX tattooed on her finger to commemorate the special event.
"Anyone that's ever done [the Super Bowl] has been scared [expletive]. You stay off the Internet for the five days afterward," said the singer.
The "Firework" singer also said that when perceived by the public, pop stars will "always have to be characters."
"As pop figures, we're all characters," she says. "And the media uses that. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know, Taylor's the sweetheart. Kanye's the villain. That's the narrative."
Of her contemporaries, she has nothing but praise for Beyonce and Adele.
"Oh my God. I'm such a big Beyonce fan. Beyonce just put out a video! You've got to see this video!" Perry said. "I was like … Finally I see you. I don't see some propaganda version of you. I see you. I relate to who you are."
"Adele is so real and couldn't care less about the trappings of fame," says Perry of the "Rumor Has It" singer.
