'Kingdom Hearts 3' Release Date, News & Updates: Square Enix Prioritizes 'Kingdom Hearts 2.8' For Now; 'KH3' May Feature Marvel, Pixar & 'Star Wars' Worlds
The release of "Kingdom Hearts 3" (KH3), the upcoming action role-playing game by Square Enix, has been waited by avid gamers for several years now. However, the co-director of the "Kingdom Hearts" series recently revealed that fans need to be more patient as the video game company prioritizes "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue" (KH2.8).
Square Enix Focuses on 'KH2.8'
Tai Yasue, "KH2.8" and "KH3" co-director, explained to GamesBeat why Square Enix did not reveal much about "KH3" during the latest Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. "It was a difficult decision for us. We want to share as much as possible," the video game director stated.

Yasue explained that while the Square Enix team is excited about "KH3," they are currently focused on the incoming release of "KH2.8." He added that they are working on both "KH3" and "KH2.8" at the same time, however, they are prioritizing the latter because it will play a vital role in making more gamers engaged with "KH3."
Yasue also confirmed that "KH2.8" will be available for PlayStation 4 only, while "KH3" will be a multiplatform. He clarified that gamers who cannot try "KH2.8" should not be worried of being left out as "KH3" could be enjoyed even without understanding all the other stories of the "Kingdom Hearts" series.
When is The Release of 'KH3'?
Yasue refused to reveal the projected release date of "KH3." He reasoned out that they wanted the announcement to be special.
"There's always a right time for everything," Yasue stated. "We want to exceed our fans' expectations and we want to do it in a good way."
In the meantime, avid fans can aid their longing for "KH3" by getting "KH2.8," which will be released globally in December. Preorders for "KH2.8" are available on Amazon US at $59.99.
'KH3' To Feature Marvel, Pixar and 'Star Wars' Worlds?
"KH3" will be the eleventh installment in the "Kingdom Hearts" series and the final chapter in the "Dark Seeker" saga. The video game series features a world that combined familiar characters and elements from Disney and "Final Fantasy."
In 2014, Yasue hinted that "KH3" may feature additional worlds. "I can't go into specifics but there's a lot of new Disney stuff and we have our plates full. Nothing's off-limits, we're considering all of the worlds," Yasue teased, according to VG24/7.
Although Square Enix did not give any statement, recent reports claimed Marvel, Pixar and "Star Wars" are the potential worlds that will be added to the "KH3." VG24/7 stated that these rumors are possible considering that Marvel, Pixar and "Star Wars" worlds are technically part of the Disney family.
