Kit Harington 'Gunpowder' Air Date, Spoilers: Guy Fawkes, Robert Catesby Assasination Plot Crumbles
History already determined the fate of Kit Harington's character, Robert Catesby, in "Gunpowder." Viewers, however, will still get to watch how the final episode went down when it airs on BBC this Saturday.
"Gunpowder" season 1 episode 3 will find Catesby and Guy Fawkes (Tom Cullen) carrying out their plot to blow up the English Parliament and bring the Westminster Palace to the ground. As they wait for cues below the tunnel, authorities pressure Father Garnet (Peter Mullan) to reveal what he knows.
Fawkes is caught and brought before the King, who eventually orders his execution. Catesby and the rest of the plotters fight back despite being at the losing end. They also lose their lives.
Their rebellion, however, became etched in British history as the Gunpowder Plot. Catesby led the Catholics in England in its defiance against the Protestant rulers, who persecuted subordinates who did not denounce their religion. In modern day, the Gunpowder Plot has been referred to as Bonfire Night and observed every Nov. 5.
Meanwhile, viewers in the U.S. will be able to watch "Gunpowder" on HBO. The network acquired Harington's miniseries, which will debut on Monday, Dec. 18, at 10:00 p.m. EST. The show's three episodes will air on consecutive nights.
"Gunpowder" also stars Liv Tyler ("The Leftovers") and Mark Gatiss ("Sherlock"). Ronan Bennett wrote the episodes while J. Blakeson directed the series.
"Three years ago, Daniel West and I conceived and began developing 'Gunpowder' with Kudos and Ronan Bennett," Harington said in announcing the show's release in America. "We are now thrilled to share this unique story with the U.S. audience. I can't think of a better place to do that than my home at HBO."
Harington has a long-standing relationship with HBO because of his work on "Game of Thrones." The actor is currently filming the popular show's eighth and final season.
