Klay Thompson Still Not Over with Golden State Warriors' Loss: Will Splash Brothers Weaken in the 2016-17 NBA Season Because of Kevin Durant's Entry?

Klay Thompson is on cloud nine after the U.S. Men's National Basketball Team defended their title at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Despite the victory, the 26-year-old shooting guard continues to cringe about the loss of the Golden State Warriors to the Cleveland Cavaliers during last season's NBA Finals series.

Not Yet Over

Thompson recently told GQ that he is yet to get over with the loss of the Warriors to the Cavaliers. He said that it was hard considering that they were up 3-1 in the series and they only needed one more win to gain back-to-back champions.

The All-Star sharpshooter, who is one half of the popular Splash Brothers, explained that he felt like they were controlling their own destiny but they failed to get it done. He reiterated that the loss is still fresh in his mind and it will continue to linger until the team gets the opportunity again.

Thompson, however, stated that the Cavaliers should get the credit for not giving up. He also added that their loss in the finals will only make them stronger in the 2016-17 NBA season.

The Future of Splash Brothers

Per Yahoo Sports, Thompson and Stephen Curry earned the nickname Splash Brothers in 2012 because of their excellent long-range shooting. Last season, the basketball duo made their most impressive record with Curry raking 402 three-point shots and Thompson obtaining 276.

However, after hitting historic numbers, some sports analysts projected that the Splash Brothers' impressive records will dwindle in the 2016-17 NBA season because of their new All-Star teammate Kevin Durant. The small forward left the Oklahoma City Thunder during the free agency period for a two-year $54.3 million deal with the Warriors.

According to Sam Amick of USA Today Sports, Thompson will most likely suffer the effects of Durant's entry. He explained that having a strong and decorated player like Durant would mean lesser numbers for Thompson.

Still Excited

Despite projections that his numbers will go down in the 2016-17 NBA season, Thompson remained optimistic about Durant's entry in the Warriors. He stated on his GQ interview that he is excited to prove how great they can be as a team.

It is not the first time that the shooting guard addressed questions about Durant. Early this month, he told Shams Charania of The Vertical that he felt disrespected every time people think that he is being sacrificed with Durant's entry.

Thompson stated they all want to see each other doing well. He also emphasized that he is not sacrificing and changing his game just because Durant is around.
