Kobe Bryant News: 'The Black Mamba' Surpasses Legend In All-Time Assists, Gives Advice To Rookie Teammate Anthony Brown
Los Angeles Lakers superstar franchise player Kobe Bryant has set another NBA record. "The Black Mamba" is on his 20th and final NBA playing year, as he has announced his retirement in late November.
The 37-year-old professional basketball player had also begged off from being part of the United States basketball team that would be competing at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In a report by Baxter Holms for ESPN, Bryant has officially surpassed former Lakers star Jerry West in the all-time assists list. Bryant broke West's record of 6,238 assists during the Lakers' 112-95 loss to the Houston Rockets on Sunday. His career assists so far is 6,254.
"I dish. It's on them whether they make it or not," Bryant said speaking about his teammates. "It's not rocket science to me. If I handle the ball and I penetrate, I can find guys pretty easily and pass the ball pretty well. It's nothing new."
Bryant has broken other NBA records in the past. He holds the third most attempted field goals with 25,693, holding the number three spot behind Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He also holds the second-most points in NBA history with 81, coming in second to the late great Wilt Chamberlain, who scored 100 points in a single game.
Meanwhile, Bryant also offered a piece of advice to his rookie teammate Anthony Brown. A 34th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 2015 draft, the 23-year-old professional basketball player has yet to catch his big break.
Currently, he is averaging 18.08 minutes of playing time per game and is piling in 3.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.2 blocks, and 0.4 steals.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Daily News, Brown says Bryant offered him a simple piece of advice.
"If you can defend, you'll have a job. Everything else from there, it'll come. But defend first."
The Lakers currently hold a win-loss slate of 9-37, holding the number 15 slot at the Western Conference standings. They are slated to play against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, at home.
