Korean American Group Donates $160,000 to Food for the Hungry
Korean American Food for the Hungry presented a $160,000 check to its parent organization, Food for the Hungry International, last week to help victims in Asia rebuild after December’s devastating tsunami.
Korean American Food for the Hungry presented a $160,000 check to its parent organization, Food for the Hungry International, last week to help victims in Asia rebuild after December’s devastating tsunami. The presentation, which took place on Mar. 10, was held at The Korea Times office in Annandale, Virginia.
“I am proud of how the Korean American community has risen to help people impacted by the tsunami,” said Ben Homan, president of Food for the Hungry United States.
Homan, who accepted the check on behalf of the international organization, said “The strong and resilient character of Korean people around the world can offer inspiration to people who are rebuilding their lives in the wake of this tragedy.”

“Also, the generous outpouring of love and gifts from Koreans in the United States demonstrates merciful action that I deeply admire and respect," Homan added.
Since its establishment in 1971, Food for the Hungry has provided emergency relief and implemented development programs in 46 countries to help the world’s most disadvantaged people.
Because its international headquarters are in Thailand, Food for the Hungry was able to respond in less than 24 hours after the deadly tsunami hit. The faith-based organization has since implemented emergency relief and long-term rebuilding efforts throughout Thailand, Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka to help hundreds of thousands of people rebuild.
