LA Dodgers MLB 2015 News, Rumors: Jimmy Rollins Blasts Philly
Jimmy Rollins is taking the town of Philadelphia to the woodshed. In the process he is speaking out of both sides of his mouth. Really Rollins is the perfect picture of a sports star who thinks that stardom entitles him to something. Rollins comes off as an over privileged athlete who forgets just how good he has got it. In the process he has blasted a town where he played 15 years of his career, and the fans that made him what he is today. Rollins seems to forget that if the fans stopped showing up or caring who is was or what he can do on the baseball field if would be pretty tough for him to make a living much less pull down millions of dollars in salary and endorsement deals.
Rollins told Ken Rosenthal that he loved Philly, and understood that without the Phillies he would not be who he is today, and then was quoted saying, "The general area, the city (of Philadelphia) being blue-collar, it's not conducive for a superstar. You can be good, but you've got to be blue-collar along the way, keep your mouth shut, just go and work." Philadelphia like other cities on the east coast, and in the Mid West are blue collar and like their sports stars to be humble and to not act with an air of entitlement about them.
Rollins went on to say, "this is L.A. It's almost like it's OK to be more flamboyant. You kind of appreciate that the more you're out there. Because L.A. loves a star." Rollins has gone from being a pretty big fish in a somewhat small pond, and face of the franchise in Philadelphia to being just another part of the team in Los Angeles for the Dodgers and maybe that roles suits him better.
With that being said Rollins should be more respectful of the fans in Philadelphia. Hard working blue collar fans who have to make a choice with their entertainment dollars. Maybe the next time the Dodgers are in town the great baseball fans in Philadelphia should all take that day to go see a movie instead of a baseball game.
