Thousands Raised for Family of 11-Y-O Boy Who Died Saving 7-Y-O Sister's Life
Thousands of dollars in donations are now pouring in for the family of an 11-year-old boy who sacrificed his life so his 7-year-old sister could escape the deadly hit of an out-of-control vehicle as they waited for the school bus just outside their home in Chester, South Carolina, last Tuesday.
According to The Herald, just before 7:30 a.m. the boy, La'Darious Tyres Wylie, a fifth-grader at Chester Park Center of Literacy through Technology, was at the bus stop down the street from his house with his sister, Sha'Vonta, when he was struck by a car.
The driver of the car, Michelle Johnson, 57, according to The Herald, did not stop and render aid or call authorities. La'Darious' head was smashed so bad, police say in an arrest warrant, that there was "severe damage" to Johnson's 2003 Nissan. La'Darious died Oct. 28, a day after the incident at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

His mother, Elizabeth McCrorey, later revealed that he sacrificed his life to save his sister. Sha'Vonta told her La'Darious lunged and pushed her out of the path of the car.
"He knew to look out for her," McCrorey said.
Johnson was charged last Thursday with felony hit and run resulting in death. She was released late Friday after posting a $25,000 bond.
La'Darious' heroism has struck a chord with the public and his community.
A gofundme campaign started last Wednesday with a goal to raise $20,000 to help with funeral and family expenses had raised nearly $50,000 as of Friday morning.
"Truly breaks my heart! Tears down my cheeks. Praying God bring peace and comfort to you and your family. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his sister. He is a true hero!" wrote donor Joshua Roberts.
In an update to the campaign on Thursday, it was revealed that La'Darious was buried and his family thanked everyone for their support.
"The Family of La'Darious Wylie would like to thank you. The contributions continue to pour in. The outpouring of support and graciousness is heartfelt. May God bless you all! Today Elizabeth lay to rest her brave strong young man. No mother should go through what she going through. She told me she donated his organs because if her son could save another child life, bless her heart!!" said the update on the campaign's page.
According to The Herald, a number of people in Chester City are now pushing to rename that city's Brooklyn Park in honor of La'Darious because he played there all his life.
Chester County Supervisor Shane Stuart said he heard about the idea and feels it would be "fitting."
"It would be an honorable way to remember him," Stuart said.
