Lamar Odom's Condition Remains Unclear as Reports That He Is 'Brain Dead' Increase
Details of former NBA superstar Lamar Odom's medical condition remain unknown as the investigation into the circumstances of why he was found unconscious at a Nevada brother early this week is going on. According to a report in CNN, the Nye County Sheriff shared with reporters Wednesday that Odom had been using cocaine, as reported by employees of the brothel where he was found. Sheriff Sharon Wehrly also said that they have yet to test a blood sample of Odom as they continue their investigation.
Odom was found unconscious last Tuesday with "pinkish fluid coming out of his mouth and nose," as described by the employee who called 911. He had been at the brothel since Saturday and based on the 911 call, was said to have been taking herbal supplement tablets over the past three days. He was brought to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas where he remains confined.
No official announcement has been made about his condition by his family, although his estranged wife Khloe Kardashian is with him at the hospital. The CNN report said that a source close to Kardashian said that she will be making medical decisions for Odom. The couple's divorce has not been finalized so Kardashian remains Odom's legal wife.
As his real condition remains unknown, reports that the NBA star is "brain dead" continue to go around. According to an E! News report, their source said, "Likely there's brain damage, but they're not sure how much. Virtually every drug imaginable was found in his system." The source also said that the doctors are handling his condition the way that they would handle someone with a drug overdose. The report also said that he was still unconscious and on a ventilator, which meant that he was not breathing on his own. A separate report on TMZ also quoted their sources that said that Odom's prognosis was "not good."
Aside from Kardashian, Odom's father and two children are also said to be with him at the hospital, as news about his current condition are still unknown.
Odom has been reportedly dealing with drug abuse even when he was still with Khloe Kardashian. After he left basketball, he became part of the "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" reality series while married to Khloe.
