Larry Wilmore to Replace Stephen Colbert With 'The Minority Report' on Comedy Central
Larry Wilmore will replace Stephen Colbert on Comedy Central beginning in January of 2015, according to reports. The African-American comedian will host "The Minority Report" in the 11:30 p.m. time slot that "The Colbert Report" currently does.
Larry Wilmore, an Emmy-winning writer and producer has worked on "The Daily Show" and written for big time shows like "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "In Living Color" and "The Jamie Foxx Show." Wilmore also was the co-creator of "The PJs" and "The Bernie Mac Show."
His latest show will move him from California to New York City, and it will be produced by Jon Stewart's Busboy Productions.
"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," Wilmore told the Los Angeles Times. "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker T-shirts when I'm layering."
"While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and show runner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan," Stewart said.
While the show will be filling the large shoes of the very popular "Colbert Report," it will also offer a different perspective for "underrepresented voices in comedy and media," Comedy Central stated.
Wilmore, 52, functioned as the Senior Black Correspondent on "The Daily Show."
"We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Jon Stewart and Busboy Productions, and are looking forward to the world getting to know Larry Wilmore even better. He's a spectacular talent in front of and behind the camera," said Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless.
Colbert will be taking over for David Letterman at the "Late Show" on CBS next year.
