'Law & Order: SVU' Season 16 Spoilers: Recap of Episode 10 'Forgiven Rollins'
The SVU does a great job of solving cases and making sure that people who have done wrong get what they deserve. But what happens when they find out that one of the team is a victim of a sexual crime? This is what Olivia Benson and the rest of the team had to deal with in episode 10 of the show titled "Forgiven Rollins."
On the last episode, a series of young girls are assaulted and raped, and Detective Rollins says that the attacks match the same pattern of a series of rapes in Atlanta, but the rape kits were never analyzed. Rollins had to meet up with her old boss, Chief Patton, and he tells her that there's no point in testing the kits. However, through sheer perseverance, Rollins is able to track down the perpetrator of the rapes in New York and Atlanta.
"Forgiven Rollins" starts with a press conference with the Georgia police officers and NYPD about the rapist that was caught, and Olivia and the rest of the team are irked that Patton, who is in New York at the moment, is taking all of the credit for catching the rapist.
The next morning, Olivia gets a phone call that one of the detectives from Atlanta was raped in her hotel room the night before. They visit the detective, Reese, and she says the she wasn't raped and that she just hit her head on the sink before passing out. But Amanda has an inkling of what really happened and she goes out of the room and cries. Reese then tells Olivia that she was raped and that it was Chief Patton who did it.
Olivia briefs the team on the case, and she asks Amanda if Patton is capable of doing such a crime. She says that she doesn't know.
Dobbs interrogates Patton, and Patton says that he has been cheating on his wife with Reese. He says that she is accusing him of rape since he won't leave his wife, and that whatever Amanda has to say is not true because she's harboring a grudge against him.
Amanda goes to a bar and Fin follows her and asks her what happened between her and Patton. She reveals that her sister was arrested and that Patton told her that her sister's case would go away if she slept with him. Amanda says that she wasn't raped.
Amanda goes back to the station, and she tells Reese to testify against Patton. Reese gets angry and tells Amanda that she's not like her at all. Then Reese is shocked when she learns that Patton told the police that they were having an affair, and realizes that Amanda was a victim too.
They go to court, and Patton insists that he did not rape Reese. He then gets an anxiety attack and is rushed to the hospital. Later, Patton and his attorney said that Patton will resign and will plead guilty to second degree sexual assault. He goes back to court and pleads guilty. He will not be jailed, but he will be on the sex offender registry.
"Law & Order: SVU" airs on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. on NBC.
