Leah Remini Teases Her Mother After Winning an Emmy for Her Scientology Series
Leah Remini teased her mother while accepting an Emmy award for her documentary series, "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath."
Remini was given a trophy for Best Informational Series at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Deadline reports. During her acceptance speech, she teased her mother who was the one who introduced their family into the practices of Scientology.
"Mom, thank you. You are officially forgiven for getting us into a cult," Remini joked.
Besides that, Remini told everyone that her mother had always hoped to attend an event where she would be given an Emmy.
It is the first time Remini won an Emmy award, which also happens to be the first time she's been given a nomination. "Scientology and the Aftermath" is a documentary series that debunks the practices of the Church of Scientology through the testimonies of Remini and other former members of the organization.
Remini paid tribute to the people who came forward and talked about their experiences with the Church of Scientology. She also gave thanks to A&E, the network where her documentary series aired, for giving their support to her cause, Entertainment Tonight confirmed.
Later on, Remini talked about what winning an Emmy meant to her.
The actress said that she wanted to win an Emmy for being an actress. However, Remini said that as she grew older, she "realized what's really important" and wanted to be "more about doing the right things," which led her to expose the organization of Scientology.
At the Television Critics Association in August, Remini was awarded a trophy for best reality series. Remini gave thanks to the people who awarded her with the trophy.
"I spent most of my life being told the world outside Scientology would fail me, that I would fail, and that without it I wasn't worth a whole lot. I thank you for proving those theories wrong," she said at the time.
