Los Angeles Clippers Trade Rumors: Clippers Discussing Blake Griffin Trade With Philadelphia 76ers?
The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly in talks with the Los Angeles Clippers for a possible deal involving superstar big man Blake Griffin.
The 26-year-old professional basketball player has been linked to a number of trade rumors, with the Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder as just two of the few teams who have shown interest. Griffin, who was a first overall pick by the Clippers during the 2009 NBA Draft, has not played with any other team.
He is currently in the sidelines nursing a broken hand, after being involved in a physical altercation with team equipment manager Matias Testi in January. He is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
In a report by Kyle Neubeck for SBNation.com's Liberty Ballers, FOX Sports Ohio's Sam Amico reported through a tweet that the two teams have been in constant communication as of late, possibly working out a deal for Griffin.
"Both Sixers and Nuggets have had discussions with Clippers about Blake Griffin, per league sources," Amico wrote in his tweet.
For the current season, the Philadelphia 76ers are in a rebuilding phase, holding a win-loss record of 8-43. They are ranked number 15 overall at the Eastern Conference standings. The report adds that the addition of Griffin may very well alleviate the Sixers' woes, noting how he is a "one-man fast break" as well as an "increasingly diverse player."
"On the Sixers end, Griffin would cause a drastic shift in where things are headed. Soon to be 27 with two years left on his contract after this season, his arrival would signal the end of any grace period for the franchise," an excerpt of Neubeck's report reads.
Throughout his almost seven-year stint with the Clippers, Griffin has garnered several honors for his impressive performances. He has bagged the Rookie of the Year honors and was a member of the 2015 All-NBA Third Team.
He has also made five NBA All-Star appearances, from 2011-2015.
